About Us
Hello and welcome to Senior Fitness Review your one stop shop for the latest and greatest exercise bikes for all ages but in particular seniors.
Who are we? Our names are Bob and Mary Carter, happily married bike enthusiasts for 30+ years. We have always loved bikes, not only for the fitness but the enjoyment. We look back on our younger years and think about all the fun adventures we shared on holidays when it was just us and two bikes, scenery passing by, the wind in our face. Exercise that never really felt like exercise, well maybe it did on the hills.
Biking was definitely our passion, and nothing could take that away from us, but as the years went on, getting out on our trusty push bikes became more difficult. Our balance wasn’t what it used to be and neither was our confidence. There is a quote from Lance Armstrong that says, “If you worried about falling off the bike, you’d never get on.” As you get older, getting back on can become harder. We don’t bounce back like we did in our younger days. For us, it took a good run in with a pole, a trip to hospital and 20 stitches, thanking our lucky stars it wasn’t more serious. From that day on, getting out on a bike became a nervous experience for both of us. The hardest part, however, was that despite the nerves, we still loved riding and the joy it bought to our lives. The happy memories that came with it and the exercise that didn’t feel like exercise. We went from riding every day to only getting on the bike occasionally. Our fitness started to suffer.
Our soul was missing riding, the joy of pedaling away your troubles. Every time we got on the bike the nerves would kick in. The balance would get wobbly. Surely this couldn’t be the end of something that had been such a big part of our lives for so long? Not being able to ride daily was like locking a marathon runner in a hotel room and telling them they aren’t allowed to leave the room for a whole week! We had to find another way to ride.
That’s when we decided to investigate the possibility of an exercise bike or two. We are quite a competitive couple and part of the joy of riding was that it was something, we could do together. We set about researching the market. How hard could it be to find an exercise bike? They have always seemed fairly simple – a stationary bike that doesn’t topple sideways could be the answer to our balance issues. Not only were we confronted with endless brand names, gadgets and gizmos, we also realized there were different kinds of exercise bikes. You could even have a “bike” without the bike – just the pedals.
Clearly, this task wasn’t going to be quite as easy as we had imagined. We had so many questions. What was the difference between an Upright Stationary Bike, a Recumbent Bike and an Exercise Peddler? What was going to be the right option for us? We started asking around, friends, colleagues, physio therapists, exercise gurus, the guy at the local fitness store. There were so many things to consider. If only there was somewhere we could go that had all the information in one place. That brings us to this website. We may not have a degree in exercise bikes, but we have ridden bikes since we were kids. Through our endless research of the exercise bike market and our questioning of the experts, we now have a wealth of knowledge that we would like to share with you. So that you can have all your questions answered in the one place and make an informed decision when purchasing your exercise bike or peddler.
We may not be grey and old like these two, well maybe one of us is grey, but we do understand the fears and stability issues that can come with aging. We know exactly what it is like to lose confidence in one’s abilities, while still wanting to keep active. We feel sure we can help you find the right exercise bike for you and your needs that will see you through many years to come, from the safety and comfort of your own home.
We love our new exercise bikes. It was definitely the right decision for us. Not only has it bought our fitness levels back to what they were before we stopped riding. It has brought us a new lease of life. Finally we can pedal away without that nervous fear in the back of our heads. We have even had the odd race to see who can pedal the furthest in a set amount of time. It might not be the same as riding outside, but we can do it rain or shine, night or day. We feel confident we will be able to keep it up for many years to come.
